Over mij

Ik ben James Stephens (11 oktober 2002) uit Heukelum. Op 3 februari 2018, toen ik vijftien was, kocht ik mijn eerste boog - een zogenaamde barebow - en werd ik lid van handboogvereniging ACE-Xclusive in Rhenen.

Ik ontdekte al snel dat boogschieten echt een sport voor mij is en dat ik de rust en concentratie op kan brengen die ervoor nodig is. Binnen korte tijd kocht ik een nieuwe boog, een Freestyle recurve. Mijn techniek werd steeds beter en daarom werd ik uitgenodigd om voor de Regio in Amersfoort te komen schieten.

Ik verhuisde naar AHV Centaur en begon serieus wedstrijden te schieten, waaronder een aantal in het buitenland. In 2020 werd ik lid van HBS Almere, waar ik nu in het selectieteam schiet.

I am James Stephens (11th October 2002) from Heukelum, the Netherlands. On the 3rd  of February 2018, when I was fifteen, I bought my first bow, a so-called Barebow and I became a member of the archery club ACE-Xclusive in Rhenen (NL).

Soon I discovered that archery was really my thing and that I could find the peace and concentration that is needed for this sport. It didn't take me long to buy a new bow, a Freestyle Recurve bow. I really improved my technique, so I was invited to train with and shoot for the Region in Amersfoort (NL).

I moved to AHV Centaur, the archery club in that city. There, I started shooting serious competitions, among which a few international ones. In 2020 I joined HBS Almere, where I am part of the selection team.

Ik train ook veel thuis in de achtertuin, op 70 meter. Ik schiet tusen 1000 en 1500 pijlen per week, train twee keer per week bij Crossfit Leerdam en doe aan hardlopen. Mijn doel is professioneel boogschutter te worden.

In september 2021 ben ik Nederlands kampioen outdoor geworden bij de junioren en in januari 2022 won ik de bronzen medaille in het Nîmes Archery Tournament under 21. Op 5 maart 2022 werd ik Nederlands kampioen indoor junioren. Ik ben hier zeer trots op! Ik had dit niet kunnen doen zonder mijn fantastische trainers (de huidige en die van vroeger), mijn sponsors en de mensen om mij heen.

I also train at home a lot, in the back garden, at 70 meters. I shoot between 1000 and 1500 arrows a week, train twice a week at Crossfit Leerdam and go running. My goal is to become a professional archer.

In September 2021 I became Dutch Champion Outdoor Juniors and in Januari 2022 I won bronze at the international Nîmes Archery Tournament in the under 21 category. On 5th March 2022 I became Dutch Champion Recurve under 21, all of which I am very proud! I could not have achieved this without my amazing trainers (previous and present), my sponsors and the support of all the people around me.
